Wireless WiFi CCTV cameras have exploded in popularity for Indian homes — they're quick to install, need no long cable runs, and stream straight to your phone. But are they the right choice for your home, or is a wired system still better?
WiFi cameras shine for renters, small homes and spot-monitoring (a nursery, entrance or shop counter). They're affordable, portable and easy to self-install. The trade-offs: they depend on your WiFi strength, can drop connection, and usually rely on SD-card or cloud storage rather than a central recorder.
When to Choose Wireless vs Wired
For a few cameras and easy setup, WiFi is perfect. For whole-home or business coverage with 24/7 reliability, a wired (PoE or analog) system with a DVR/NVR is more dependable and scalable. A hybrid approach works well too — wired cameras for critical zones and WiFi cameras for flexible spots. Whatever you pick, secure the camera with a strong password and keep firmware updated to prevent hacking.
